I always worked on busy, back-to-back charters, loving the busy schedules, each charter trip guests bringing new personalities, challenging my imagination to make their trip as memorable as possible, understanding hot stop areas around the Med & Caribbean, providing exclusive shore side experiences & above all, making it all look effortless.

The story…

One such yacht I was on, we were a tight crew, working so well together we often didn’t need to request help. We all assisted each other in every way we could.

Our preference sheet was the insight into what guests not only would like to eat, drink, like to send their time onboard doing… But a ‘good’ preference sheet provides you with what kind of personalities you were going to have onboard.

One preference sheet stood out from the others, I knew was going to be hard work, but a bucket load of fun!

The requests started with the usual party vibe guest antics with clear good taste, 100 bottles of Grey Goose, Methuselah size crates of the very best vintage reds, Loire Valley stunning whites, Patron tequila, Kobe beef, Beluga caviar, the list was extensive & expensive.

What caught my eye was the ‘strange’ other requests, reindeer rugs imported from Finland, Hell Beer – only found in Sweden, a coffin had to be made for a party in memory of a man who was famous for putting on porn video get together’s in a tepee, reindeer meat was to be bought only from Finland, t-shirts to be made for the crew & guests to wear that said “Erik Says Relax’ & the most bizarre, yet intriguing, was each guest was to be presented with a gift bag on arrival, with a variety of sex toys & paraphernalia.

Well one thing was for sure, they were going to be fun, partying hard & I am going to die of embarrassment walking into the local sex shop to pick out items to fill 12 guest ‘gift’ bags.

(I bought that much the shop even gave me a 20% discount!)

When the guests arrived, they were fun filled non-stop, the principle flinging his arms around me like he had known me for years. Most were Swedish, all had this infectious giddiness about them as everything was ‘super’, they were polite, funny, interacting with us – which we usually do not do, but they insisted this had to be ‘super’ for the crew too.

The trip was for 7 days, every day & evening was a party, we had to replenish supplies three times & I got very little sleep as I had to accompany them to various nightlife hotspots (at their request).

Made up afterwards with a week off. Thank you, Captain!

I could not relay the things I encountered. But I will say, even though I’d spent 10 years on yachts at that time, it made my eyes almost pop out of my head!

It was clear to me, that the principle was a person who took care of his friends, was wildly wealthy, but the difference was, he always was happy, always enjoying himself & every time, very grateful for whatever the crew had put together.

He would burst into the pantry, purely to make us laugh. One night he ordered pizza for his guests & all the crew so he could “say how grateful we are & I love hanging out with you ‘super’ people’”.

All the crew agreed, this was the craziest charter we had every encountered, but by far the best guests we had too.

On the last day the principle asked if I would work for him, I of course took with a pinch of salt but took as a huge compliment. This was a mid-season charter, July, so we said our goodbyes & I knew I would not see them again.

September came, we had had a fantastic, successful charter season & were looking forward to arriving in Monaco for a well-earned crew night out.

As we were coming in stern to, there was this tall figure stood on the quay, one foot resting on two Nebuchadnezzar (15 litres) boxes of champagne, with his hands on his hips waving.

As we got closer, I realised it was the principle from the crazy charter!

When we finally berthed & I walked down the Passerelle, he simply said ‘I told you I want you to work for me’.

I had been thinking about ‘retiring’ from being a Chief Stewardess for some time, it had been 10 years. But never in my wildest dreams did I think I would get an opportunity like this.

So I handed in my notice, with the Captains blessing & started my first shore side position with his company. And yes, I too got to experience wild, crazy but amazing trips with the company, as his guests had.

The rest is another story, but I will leave this with one word to summarise my time working with his company – ‘SUPER’!
