Launched in 2013 by the renowned German shipbuilder Lürssen Yachts, Azzam continues to hold the title of the world’s largest yacht in 2024. Measuring an extraordinary 180.61 metres in length, this superyacht represents the pinnacle of marine engineering and luxury design. With construction spanning four years, Azzam stands as a marvel of craftsmanship.
A Vision Realised
The creation of Azzam was driven by the vision of its owner, Mubarak Saad al Ahbabi, who led a team of designers and engineers from the bare concept to the final product. This collaboration resulted in an exceptionally complex vessel, featuring cutting-edge technology and unparalleled luxury. The yacht’s exterior, designed by Nauta Yachts, is distinguished by its sleek, elongated profile and elegantly tiered decks leading up to the skydeck.
Luxurious Interiors & Accommodations
Inside, Azzam is equally impressive. The interior, designed by Christophe Leoni, showcases a stunning 95-foot-long main salon, inspired by the Empire style of the early 19th century. This grand space is just one example of the yacht’s opulent features, which are designed to provide the utmost comfort for up to 36 guests.
Unmatched Performance & Engineering
Beyond its luxury, Azzam is a powerhouse of engineering. With a beam of 20.8 metres and a draught of 4.5 metres, the yacht accommodates a crew of 80. It’s also powered by two MTU engines and two General Electric gas turbines. This setup enables Azzam to reach an impressive top speed of 31.5 knots. Remarkably, the yacht can maintain high speeds even in shallow waters, thanks to its advanced water jet propulsion system.
A Legacy of Privacy & Prestige
Despite its monumental size and capabilities, Azzam has remained shrouded in privacy, with few details ever released by Lürssen. However, its status as the largest and one of the most advanced yachts ever built is undisputed, a testament to the vision and ambition that went into its creation.
