Designer Kurt Merki Jr created a buzz at this year’s Monaco Yacht Show with his latest concept, the 86.5-metre superyacht named Zeitgeist presented in the Yacht Design & Innovation Hub.
The yacht’s distinctive aesthetic, showcased via an interactive touch screen animation and in the Immersive Experience by Van Berge Henegouwen (VBH), highlighted multiple wow-factor features such as a landing pad for e-VTOL (electric Vertical Take-Off and Landing) crafts, and wind turbines focused on reducing a superyacht’s energy needs.
Designed with all the touchstones of a futuristic build in collaboration with partners and consultants including Esthec, GREENBOATS, Dade Design, Desserto, IceWind, Hypetex, Shadowcat/Robert Smith, SiO2 and Michael Köhler, Zeitgeist introduces innovative materials onboard such as bio-based decking and cactus leather.
Impossible not to miss is the extensive and innovative use of solar roofing across the yacht – providing alternative power sources for supplementing the onboard energy resources. In terms of onboard amenities, Kurt Merki Jr’s concept features a private owner’s suite with 80m2 shaded terrace, a 20m2 vertical nursery, an infinity pool and beach club — as well as five guest suites.
As the designer put it:
“Zeitgeist is a unique vessel that marries groundbreaking technology and eco-conscious materials with striking design to appeal to next-generation yacht owners.”
