Inspired by the yachting heritage of the South Coast and proudly produced in Hampshire, Solent Spirit is always busy producing taste bud-tickling craft rums. Superyacht Content spoke to Patrick Heaps, co-founder, to learn more about their ethos, inspiration, and – most importantly – their rum. Here’s how crew can get a hold of it!

About Solent Spirit:

Solent Spirit was born in 2021, the brainchild of Patrick Heaps, a part-time resident of Yarmouth, Isle of Wight, and Matthew Iles, the owner of independent wine and spirits merchant Quercus Wines.

Their ethos & inspiration

The world famous yachting waters of the Solent, off the south coast of England and the Isle of Wight (home to Royal yacht clubs and Cowes Week) is the inspiration for Solent Spirit Rums.

Their ethos revolves around crafting premium rums that celebrate the area’s rich maritime heritage. Each bottle reflects a commitment to quality and local ingredients, delivering a unique and memorable taste. The rums are crafted using traditional methods, with a modern twist provided by the distinctive flavors and aromas of locally sourced botanicals.

Where to find Solent Spirit

Solent Spirit’s rums are available for wholesale purchase directly from their website or through direct messages on Instagram. Superyacht crew can benefit from wholesale prices and mixed cases, with delivery across the UK via a 24-hour courier service. For private individual orders, Solent Spirit partners with The Rum Co.

The Solent Spirit Range

From the zesty and refreshing notes of their lime-infused rum to the rich and complex profile of their spiced rum, there is something for every palate. The rums are uniquely stratch-distilled in Hampshire England. They use botanicals such as locally foraged gorse flowers, fresh limes, sugar kelp, spices and steeped in driftwood.

How to enjoy!

All are craft rum and so are of the quality to drink neat or over ice.

White rum

Their white rum, crafted from sugar cane juice, undergoes double distillation to achieve exceptional smoothness. Infused with three distinct ingredients: fresh lime, which imparts a vibrant Caribbean touch. Locally foraged yellow gorse flowers from the Hampshire coastline, adding a subtle vanilla note. Coconut, which provides a discreet, almost creamy softness on the finish.

This rum is perfect for sipping, either with or without ice, or for serving in classic white rum cocktails such as a Mojito or Daiquiri.

Spiced rum

Their contemporary twist on traditional spiced rum uses the same signature botanicals as their white rum but includes additional citrus fruit flavors and a variety of carefully selected exotic and aromatic spices. Sugar kelp and a touch of Demerara sugar provides a hint of sweetness on the finish.

Unlike many commercial spiced rums flavored with caramel or artificial ingredients, theirs is gently infused with staves and driftwood to achieve its delicate golden color. Made for savoring on its own or in a superb Dark and Stormy or Spiced Rum Mule.

Cafe rum

Crafted from their signature Hampshire spiced rum, blended with Mocha Espresso Blend cold brew coffee from Island Roasted, an artisan coffee from the Isle of Wight.

This rum is perfect for making espresso martinis, adding to hot drinks, and for a host of culinary creations.

So Where Can Crew Grab A Sample?

Delivery

Solent Spirit is currently exploring opportunities to extend their distribution to the South of France. While they primarily supply within the UK, they are excited about the challenge of expanding their reach.

The rums are proudly supplied to (amongst others) Royal yacht clubs, and waterside high-end restaurants. Recently, they supplied a Sunseeker superyacht visiting the UK.

Co-branding

The owners have just launched their bespoke co-branded Jeroboam, where the boats’ name is frosted onto the 3 L double magnum bottle.

If your yacht is interested in the 3 rums or to acquire a bespoke co-branded jeroboam, don’t hesitate to reach out to Solent Spirit!
