Last month the MYBA Charter Show took over the OneOcean Port Vell marina in Barcelona, hosting some of the industry’s most exquisite superyachts. Among the lineup was a selection of yachts to charter with Y.CO’s impressive fleet, some of which we were lucky enough to tour.
4 Yachts we recommend for you this summer:
SHERAKHAN
Length: 69.7m (built 2005/ refit 2017)
Builder: Vuyk En Zonen (refit by Icon yachts)
No. of guests: 26
Weekly charter (summer): from âŹ425,000/week
SHERAKHAN has been a head-turner on the docks at boat shows for many years, but this season everybody is desperate to find out what work went on during the extensive winter refit at Icon Yachts.
This is a boat with many notable features and owner Jan Verkerkâs influence is noticeable throughout. The interior has been remodeled in both subtle and bold manners – from the removal of the jacuzzi in the master cabin to the brand new feature lighting above the 26 seater dining table, you get the feeling that Sherakhan is fresher than ever and ready to make an even bigger name for herself on the charter market. The change in hull colour from blue to white signals a new era of elegance onboard, and inside too the interior has been brightened and brought up to speed with modern design trends.
Designed for adventurous groups SHERAKHAN can accommodate up to 26 guests, who can expect to sleep in style behind the door of any one of her themed cabins. All named after famous authors, the design of each takes its interior design cue from its namesake – and believe me you will find ample space in whichever room you are allocated. One thing we noticed on the cabin tour was that almost everyone comes with their own bathtub in the ensuite, a real luxury on even some of the most expansive superyachts.
PANTHALASSA
Length: 56m
Builder: Perini Navi (built 2010)
No. of guests: 12
Weekly charter (summer): from âŹ200,000/week
PANTHALASSA is a beautiful Perini-Navi sailing yacht that encapsulates all that is chique and brilliant about the yachting lifestyle. Her interior offers a rare insight into the mind of a world-famous architect in Norman Foster; working on a smaller scale than in his day job as the creator of delights like the Shard in London and the Monaco Yacht Club. The same grand intricacies are all there in plain sight, from the marvelous sculpture-like staircase to the cleverly designed dining room that converts into a private meeting room.
Indeed, PANTHALASSA is as popular for business outings as she is perfectly suited to a holiday in the sun. The contemporary interior gives you a sense of space that feels akin to a large motor rather than sailing yachts, and it is clear that this boat has been designed with maximising volume in mind.
Accommodation onboard comprises six cabins that can either be arranged as six double suites or four doubles and two twins, and the generous proportions of all are impressive. Proportions are generous again in the concealed wine cellar at the foot of the stairs, which has more than enough space for a few weeks’ worths of your favourite vintage…
ELIXIR
Length: 55m
Builder: Amels (built 2016)
No. of guests: 12
Weekly charter (summer): from âŹ275,000/week
ELIXIR is part of the Amels 180 semi-custom range of superyachts, which are designed to be some of the most smooth functioning on the water. The lavish interior promises her guests nothing but an opulent time on the water, and principal charterers can enjoy an impressive owner’s cabin which includes its own private fold-out balcony and steam shower.
Versatility is at the heart of the charter experience on board a boat of this kind, and guests often report that they are amazed at just how many different functions a particular area onboard can have. ELIXIR’s sun deck, for example, is equally as perfect for evening cocktail parties as it is for a quiet afternoon lounging by the oversize tub, and would convert seamlessly between the two. Her crew is just as good at adapting to the mood of the moment, and we were highly impressed by their entertaining (and cocktail making) skills during sundowners onboard one evening at the show. Try the ‘Apple Pie’…I guarantee it won’t disappoint!
HEAVENLY DAZE
Length: 32m
Builder: Feadship (built 1972/ refit 2011)
No. of guests: 9
Weekly charter (summer): from âŹ55,000/week
Everybody knows that a classic Feadship oozes elegance from bow to stern, and has a soft spot in the heart of almost every yachting enthusiast on the planet. With this in mind, you won’t be surprised to learn that HEAVENLY DAZE (part of the Feadship heritage fleet) is so popular that you are probably going to struggle to charter to her this summer!
Stylish yet simple, up to 10 guests can sleep onboard, although 8 is ideal, and the yacht is perfect for family cruising or a getaway with friends.
In 1999 the top deck was extended to maximise its potential as a great place to get together and share in quality time. This area is one of the boat’s key features and if you are lucky enough to spend time onboard, you will find yourself up there for a large portion of your stay.
Inside she is just as graceful as out. During the 2011 refit, her owners were careful to maintain her historic charm and you will stumble upon these touches throughout; from a quaint china tea set which takes pride of place in the main saloon to a set of original photographs that tell a story about the yachts origins. I’ll leave the rest to you to discover for yourself…
