1. The “Home of the Superyacht”
Recently cited by Forbes Magazine as one of the top reasons to visit Barcelona, OneOcean Port Vell, with its 148-berth capacity for yachts from five meters to a whopping 190 meters, is the definitive “Home of the Superyacht”. Built in 1992 for the Olympics, and following an extensive transformation in 2014, OneOcean Port Vell prides itself on a comprehensive set of bespoke services for a discerning yachting clientele. With MYBA’s long history in organising charter shows of excellence, the Marina’s expert know-how and its strategic position in Barcelona, this edition of the MYBA Charter Show is sure to be the best ever yet!
2. Hola Barcelona!
You can’t deny that the spectacular location for the upcoming show is a huge contributing factor to the excitement surrounding the event, now just two months away. With over 20 Michelin starred restaurants, exceptional accommodation, a fantastic mild year-round climate and an abundance of cultural opportunities, Barcelona’s reputation as a one of the most dynamic and vibrant cities in the world is not an easy one to beat. Organizers expect a huge boost in attendance this year. “We are very excited about the new venue at OneOcean Port Vell in Barcelona and by all accounts, it looks like being a very special MYBA Charter Show.” said Jacqui Lockhart, Chair of the Boat Shows Panel.
3. Yachts Galore
The impressive 95m M/Y “Indian Empress” will be a dominating presence at the show and besides her sheer size and impressive spaces for entertaining, we expect it will be her master quarters spanning over an entire deck with master suite, gym, sauna and steam room that will leave you speechless. Well over 60 yachts are in the process of finalizing their registration, with the stunning 70m M/Y “Joy” and 38m M/Y “Twilight” also already confirmed.
4. La Sagrada Familia is almost finished!
How could one possibly miss a visit to the city’s top tourist attractions? MYBA has already negotiated tour opportunities for those attending the Show and will soon be releasing all the details. Among them is a guided tour of the Sagrada Familia, which after only 133 years, is in its final stages of construction. The Cathedral is scheduled for completion in 2026, one hundred years after its architect Antonio Gaudí died in a tram accident. Make sure you make the time to check up on how work is progressing!
5. Fancy a G&T?
We all appreciate a simple yet well-made gin & tonic, but there are times that we would like to explore more innovative combinations. Perhaps while enjoying a spectacular sunset in a newly discovered (and preferably secluded) bay? MYBA has decided to celebrate this dimension of yachting lifestyle with a new interior crew contest for budding “mixologists”. The “MYBA Art in a Glass” Competition will make its debut at this year’s Show and is set to become another highlight, hot on the heels of the already very successful annual MYBA Superyacht Chefs Competition.
6. Antonio Mellino.
If you have ever cruised down the Amalfi Coast, you will have surely heard the name Antonio Mellino, a firm favourite among superyacht captains. Antonio is the two Michelin-starred Chef of Quattro Passi in Nerano, located high in the hills above the Gulf of Sorrento, and a visit to his restaurant is simply a must for yacht owners and charter guests. No stranger to the MYBA Charter Show, Antonio will be returning in 2017 for his third year as one of the prestigious judges of the MYBA Superyacht Chefs’ Competition. Together with some of Spain’s most celebrated chefs, he will face the challenge of selecting the very best in the yachting culinary arena. Not an easy task!
7. Prop up those tired feet!
After hours walking up and down the docks, nothing will be more popular this year than the new golf buggies (and water shuttles) that will take guests and industry professionals to and from the Show to OneOcean Port Vell’s five-star facilities. Stop by the modern new hospitality area to grab a ride!
