The highly anticipated DAME Design Awards, now in their 33rd year, have unveiled 58 finalists representing 28 countries, set to compete for one of the marine industry’s top design honours. This year’s winners will be announced on November 19, 2024, at the METSTRADE Breakfast Briefing at RAI Amsterdam, with NYYC American Magic’s Terry Hutchinson delivering a keynote address.
Highlighting Sustainable Design
Sustainability is once again a core focus of the awards, with jury chair Andre Hoek noting the rise of eco-friendly solutions that integrate electrification, alternative materials, and minimised environmental impact. The awards feature an Environmental Design Award for the third consecutive year, celebrating products that exemplify environmental responsibility.
METSTRADE director Niels Klarenbeek praised this year’s entries for blending innovation with sustainability and accessibility, driving advancements across the marine sector.
Expert Jury & Product Assessment
The DAME jury, consisting of nine experts across fields like design, user experience, and sustainability, undertook a thorough review process. Entries were evaluated through online submissions and hands-on assessments at RAI Amsterdam. The diverse jury includes electronics expert Ben Stein and renowned yacht designer Klaus Roeder, who brought valuable insight to the final selection.
The Categories
The finalists span eight key categories in marine equipment and technology, providing tailored solutions for boating professionals and enthusiasts:
- Personal Equipment – Essential gear for boaters, from travelers to owners.
- Comfort & Entertainment Afloat – Equipment for ensuring onboard comfort.
- Navigation & Communication – Electronics for effective, safe navigation.
- Electronic & Electrical Systems – Power and connectivity solutions.
- Propulsion & Dynamics – Systems for moving, steering, and stabilizing boats.
- Deck Equipment – Tools for mooring, anchoring, and deck management.
- Security & Safety Aboard – Safety solutions for secure, worry-free voyages.
- Shoreside Equipment & Materials – Off-vessel infrastructure that supports construction and life-long vessel care.
Attending METSTRADE 2024
At this year’s METSTRADE, visitors will have the opportunity to see all nominated products in a dedicated display at Hall 13, where attendees can explore the latest advances in marine technology firsthand. All proceeds from the award entry fees will support SailWise, a Dutch charity offering water sports experiences to individuals with disabilities.
