What is a Beachlander tender? Superyacht Tenders is here to give you a comprehensive guide.

Where did it originate from?

Andrew Higgins, a New Orleans-based boat builder and inventor, developed and manufactured landing craft critical to the success of the U.S. military during World War II. The best known was the Landing Craft, Vehicle, Personnel (LCVP), or Higgins Boat, used to land American troops on the beaches of Normandy on D-Day.

These have somewhat changed from a rudimental military personnel carrier to a luxurious form of shuttle from yacht to beach.

And now?

Beachlanders have been designed to accommodate the full complement of guests and deliver them directly to the beach. As a multirole tender, this model is able to cater the needs of any large superyacht.

There are a number of well established tender manufacturers that build these types of craft that are very versatile. If there is no dock or jetty and guests want to “go ashore” then this makes very light work of “guest drop off”. Ideal for private islands, secluded bays or where traditional jetties are not feasible. This of course in turn enhances the overall luxury experience of Superyacht ownership by providing easy access to remote locations.

Landing craft come in a monohull and cat hull. Cat hulls are predominantly built for the larger super yacht or support yacht. Ideal for taking guests and bikes ashore, diving expeditions or doing large provision or garbage runs. Very practical work horses.

What Beachlander is right for you?

Custom built beach landers can vary in size but are usually built to these sizes, 5m to 12m as they are usually “recovered” and not towed.

At Superyacht Tenders, we have been involved in supplying many beach landers to our clients. We also have an in-depth market knowledge of the product and the pros and cons of the many options out there.

We currently have some brand new 2024 model beach landers for sale varying from 6m to 9m Length ideal for the up and coming 2025 Caribbean season (and beyond!). Get in touch with Nigel in our Barcelona office or Hugh in our UK office and we can arrange a viewing!
