You might have a clear idea of what it means to be a crew member on a superyacht, but have you ever wondered what a day in the life of a superyacht agent looks like? Meet Georgina Baum from UK-based superyacht agency MGMT, who can assist all of your superyacht needs for UK visits!
What inspired you to become a superyacht agent?
I always loved the idea of becoming a superyacht agent after leaving the yachts. It seemed the perfect opportunity and career path to take whilst enabling me to integrate into life on land and still be very much a part of the superyacht industry. The skills and knowledge which I gained on the yachts has proven invaluable and is used daily.
Not only that, channelling my energy and being able to represent the country in which you live to fellow yacht crew and their owners whilst shouting about all the gorgeous hotspots in the UK, (Southwest especially), is something that also brings a huge sense of pride and belonging.
Can you describe a typical day in your life as a superyacht agent?
There is no such thing as a typical day when you are in the superyacht industry. We all know how many times plans and circumstances change within the industry. It keeps us on our toes and is very much part of the fun!
What’s the first thing you do when you start your day?
I grab a coffee and read through my emails. I prioritise my workload whilst also delegating tasks and vessels to the team.

How do you prioritise your tasks when managing multiple yachts?
It all boils down to time management, understanding the urgency of each request that comes in, and having a solid team that are readily available to assist when required.
What is the most challenging aspect of your job?
When you are top of things, all is going great – and then boom. The next minute, your week has been thrown out completely by just one unexpected phone call or email.
Can you share a memorable experience you’ve had with a yacht or guest
Last year we had a couple of yachts in my hometown (Plymouth) at the same time. One invited me onboard for fizz and fireworks and the following day I was invited on the other for a lovely brunch with the captain and crew.
We are exceptionally lucky to have some wonderful yachts and crew come to the UK. Being a former yacht stew, a day (or yacht) rarely goes by when there isn’t a friend or mutual connection connection on board.
Also, I had the pleasure in assisting my very first captain earlier this year which was rather cool. I think he was partly shocked as to how much I had grown up to when he had last seen me (+10 years ago). I was greeted at the aft deck with a big hug, given a grand tour and then taken to the crew mess for coffee and banoffee pie. We reminisced on the good old days and joked about the time I accidentally burnt the owner’s reps Vilebrequin trunks in laundry (whoops!!…I was a green, ok!) We then went on to discuss the reason for their visit the UK along with their plans for the rest of the summer.
What’s your favourite part of the job?
Being able to accomplish what most people would consider impossible. A great example is curating an experience so exclusive that we have needed seek approval from royalty.
How do you ensure a seamless experience for crew?
To ensure a seamless crew experience. We are forever covering bases, anticipating needs whilst ensuring the information we relay is clear and to the point.
How do you balance your professional and personal life, given the demands of your job?
By ensuring you have a strong, reliable team and system in place. There is no reason to not be able to switch off and enjoy your downtime in this day and age. It’s all about working smart, and as a team.
What’s one thing about your job that might surprise people?

How do you unwind after a particularly hectic day or week?
I head out with the dog to the beach for a walk and some fresh air!
What is the most rewarding part of being a superyacht agent?
Having yachts depart the UK on a high and feeling satisfied with the level of service provided whilst visiting the UK.
